Video of the Day: Birth of a Team and a Legend

We hope you enjoy his short look back at one of, if not the greatest franchise in sports history.  In putting this together we learned a lot of things about the Packers we never knew.

On August 11, 1919, a score (20) or more husky young athletes, called together by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, gathered in the dingy editorial room of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette building on Cherry Street and organized a football team.  At the time, and obviously they did not know it, but that was the beginning of the incredible, gloried legend of the Green Bay Packers.

Lambeau and Calhoun struck the initial spark a few weeks before, during a casual street-corner conversation. It was apparently a "Why not get up a football team?" remark, but once they were interested, they wasted no time.  Read more…

Here is a look at the humble origin of this sports legend.  Rather arcane by today’s standards.  Today's high school l teams are better equipped than these guys were.

Dispute Over Costs Delays Opening of 9/11 Museum

Aides to Mr. Bloomberg and Mr. Cuomo have so far been unable to resolve their differences over which government agencies will pay the operating costs of the museum, which is intended to document the terrorist attacks of 2001 and honor the nearly 3,000 victims. The two sides also remain at odds over who will have oversight of the museum and the surrounding memorial.

A politician can screw up a one-car parade so when you put two or more of them together the odds of something going wrong increases.  Here is a prime example.

A dispute between Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo over the $1 billion museum at ground zero has dragged on for so long that the museum will not open in time for the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks — or even for the next one.  Read more>>

'The Hope and The Change' Special Most Watched Cable News Program

On Saturday, August 25, more than 2.25 million viewers watched Fox News’ one-hour special on a soon to be released documentary entitled  “The Hope and The Change” on “Hannity,” making the program the most-watched cable news show of the evening.  Here is the trailer for this movie which was produced by Citizens United.

After watching this I've come to the conclusion that the Bush Administration along with Congress' unchecked spending, including the funding of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan created the perfect storm for an Obama Victory in 2008.

"A Republic Ma'am if you can keep it."

“Pure democracy is the most vile form of government...such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention: have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”

– James Madison, Father of the US Constitution

On the day before we celebrate Independence Day, we would like to rid our readers of any misunderstanding they may have as to the form of our government.  Too many Americans have fought and died for this Rupublic to allow any misunderstanding of what our brave countrymen fought and died for.  Many Americans wrongly believe The United States is a Democracy.  But did you know that the word “Democracy” does not appear in either the United States Declaration of Independence or the Constitution?  Why is that?

Because The United States of America is not a Democracy.   It is a Constitutional Republic and it is absolutely essential in our view, that every American understands this thruth.  If we continue to allow the misconception that the United States of America is a Democracy or some other form of government to flourish we are inviting the demise of our government, our nation and the end of the American Experiment—leaving posterity to an unknown fate.

The United States of America is not a Democracy. It is a Constitutional Republic

HAPPY BIRTHHDAY AMERICA!

"... we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred Honor."

Although President Obama can't seem to bring himself to the conclusion that the United States of America is Exceptional and the greatest country ever in the history of the world.  Number "Forty-four" could learn a lot from the words and thoughts of number "Three."

"This was the object of the Declaration of Independence. Not to find out new principles, or new arguments, never before thought of, not merely to say things which had never been said before; but to place before mankind the common sense of the subject, in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent, and to justify ourselves in the independent stand we are compelled to take. Neither aiming at originality of principle or sentiment, nor yet copied from any particular and previous writing, was it intended to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion."

—Thomas Jefferson, letter to *Henry Lee, 1825

* Richard Henry Lee was a great uncle to Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

The Great Question of Independence

In its review Reuter’s declared HBO's "john Adams" a masterpiece...

Although John Adams is not exactly forgotten among the Founding Fathers, compared to many of the others, he hasn't received his due.

John Adams speech before the Continental Congress on Freedom and the reading of The Declaration of Independence.

This scene was actually filmed in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, where the debate over breaking with Great Britain actually took place; leading to the writing of the United States Declaration of Independence.

Between May and September of 1787 the United States Constitution was written and debated in this very same chamber.

Notable founders depicted in this scene are Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Dickinson and Thomas Jefferson.

Arguments against the Independence of these Colonies

JOHN DICKINSON, PENNSYLVANIA REPRESENTATIVE TO THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS “The Consequences involvd [sic] in the Motion now lying before You are of such Magnitude, that I tremble under the oppressive Honor of sharing in its Determination. I feel Myself unequal to the Burthen assigned Me. I believe, I had almost said, I rejoice, that the Time is approaching, when I shall be relieved from its Weight [sic]. (While the Trust remains with Me [sic], I must discharge the Duties [sic] of it, as well as I can—and I hope I shall be the more favorably heard, as I am convincd [sic], that I shall hold such Language, as will sacrifise [sic] my private Emolument to general Interests.) My Conduct, this Day, I expect will give the finishing Blow to my once too great, and, my Integrity considered now too diminish’d [sic] Popularity. It will be my Lott  [sic] to know, that I had rather vote away the Enjoyment of that dazzling display, that pleasing Possession, than the Blood and Happiness of my Countrymen—too fortunate, amidst their Calamities, if I prove a Truth known in Heaven, that I had rather they should hate Me [sic], than that I should hurt them. I might indeed, practise an artful, an advantageous Reserve upon this Occasion. But thinking as I do on the Subject of Debate, Silence would be guilt. I despise its Arts, I detest its Advantages. I must speak, tho [sic] I should lose my Life, tho [sic] I should lose the Affections of my Country. Happy at present, however, I shall esteem Myself [sic], if I can so far rise to the Height [sic] of this great argument as to offer to this Honorable Assembly in a full & clear Manner, those Reasons, that have so invariably fix’d [sic] my own Opinion.”  Read full text.

Six-year-Old Boy Walks to His U.S. Marine Father for the First Time

Some readers may have already seen this story on the evening news, but for those of you who have not; go grab a box of Kleenex before you watch this video from WelcomHomeBlog.  Here is how Michael’s Mother described the father—son homecoming you’re about to watch.

"When my husband left on his deployment, our 6-year-old son could not walk on his own. He has cerebral palsy. Doctors originally said that he would never walk or do much of anything. While daddy was away, he learned to walk. For his homecoming, we set it up for Michael to walk to his daddy for the first time ever! We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone!”

One World Trade Center to retake title of NYC's tallest building

Fox News reported yesterday that:

One World Trade Center, the giant monolith being built to replace the twin towers destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, will lay claim to the title of New York City's tallest skyscraper on Monday. Workers will erect steel columns that will make its unfinished skeleton a little over 1,250 feet high, just enough to peak over the roof of the observation deck on the Empire State Building.  Watch a great time lapse of One World Trade Center rising.  Read more.
