Basil Ryan Resumes Franklin Independent Journal

Basil Ryan has decided to continue the work he and his dear friend, Fred Keller, started several years ago. Out of consideration, respect, and in Fred's memory, the Franklin Independent Journal will resume.

 

Fred passed away April 24, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Fred was the heart and soul of the Franklin Independent Journal. Basil Ryan stated, "Fred was a good friend. It is my privilege to continue publishing the Franklin Independent Journal in his memory."

 

The Franklin Independent Journal will continue the policy of publishing stories written by Franklin residents about topics concerning the Franklin community.

We The Students Scholarship Contest

There is less than one month left until the deadline for The Bill of Rights Foundation’s scholarship contest. The We The Students Scholarship Contest runs through November 16, 2012.

To participate in the contest, high school students will answer three questions around the ideas of the Constitution and the role of government.  One $4,000 prize will be awarded for first place, one $2,000 prize for second place, and one $1,000 prize for third place.  Two $500 prizes will be awarded for honorable mentions.  >>Learn more hear.

You’re invited to a Sneak Preview of Franklin’s Meijer Store Development

Franklin District 1 Alderman Steve Olson has announced that Meijer stores will hold a public information meeting next Thursday, May 17 at the Franklin Community room adjacent to Franklin City Hall to present its plans for a proposed combination supermarket-discount store to be built at the corner of Hwy. 100 and Loomis road—Franklinites commonly refer to this area as the “Crossroads.”

This open house-style meeting is scheduled from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, affording Franklin citizens and interested parties the opportunity to view Meijer's plans, meet Meijer representatives, their architects and ask questions and voice their comments about this project scheduled for completion by 2014.

This meeting includes a short project presentation by Meijer representatives of at 6:30pm.

Meijer plans to mail announcements to residents around the development area.

This is NOT be an official City meeting.

How to Submit an Article to the Op-Ed Page

THE FRANKLIN INDEPENDENT JOURNAL accepts opinion articles on any topic. The suggested length is 650 words, but submissions of any length will be considered. We ask that all submissions be sent exclusively to THE FRANKLIN INDEPENDENT JOURNAL. We will not consider articles that have already been published in print or online. Submissions may be sent in any of these ways:

  • By clicking the “SUBMIT OP-ED” tab on the header bar above.
  • By e-mail to: editor@franklinindependentjournal.com
  • Please note that e-mailed articles should be pasted or typed into the body of the message; please do not send attachments.

We read all submissions promptly and will contact you within three business days if we are going to publish your article. If you have not heard from us within three business days, please assume that we will not be able to publish your article. FIJ is not able to return submissions.
