The Battle of Athens (Tennessee)

A Case Study in Grassroots Restoration of the Rule of Law

By Mark Alexander, The Patriot Post, Thursday, May 3, 2012.

As you will see Alexander’s essay is appropriate and timely with Memorial Day approaching.

"The advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of."

—James Madison, principle author of the U.S. Constitution and fourth President of the United States (1788).

As a direct descendent of Tennessee Patriots who were veterans of every major conflict in defense of American Liberty from the American Revolution forward, I stand in awe of my home state's distinguished list of Patriot sons and daughters. From 19th-century notables like Andrew Jackson, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, Nathan Bedford Forrest and Sam Davis, to a long list of 20th-century Patriots headed by Alvin York, warriors from the "Volunteer State" have distinguished themselves in battle with honor and courage. Even our state's nickname was earned in recognition of the valiant service of volunteer soldiers during the War of 1812, most notably during the Battle of New Orleans.

There was a group of lesser-known Tennessee Patriots, however, whose efforts to defend Liberty at home in 1946 were no less noble. This group of World War II veterans took up arms to restore Rule of Law in the quaint east Tennessee town of Athens (McMinn County), between Chattanooga and Knoxville. That fight became known as the Battle of Athens.  Read complete essay…

Speaking of "Victory Laps"

Before Conservatives and Republicans get too"outraged” over the president’s so-called victory lap on the first anniversary of SEAL Team 6 killing Osama bin Laden, and Obama’s secret visit to Afghanistan the other day.  Let’s all try to keep this in perspective.

Of course this visit had political overtones--Obama is a politician.  This is what politicians do.  Besides,  visiting troops in a war zone is what the Commander-in-Chief should do as often as possible.  It's called boosting troop moral.  We have a strong suspicion based on the faces of most of the looks on the soldiers' faces,  that the majority of our troops really appreciated the president’s visit, well, maybe not so much for the soldier with the president's elbow and armpit in his face.

Jimmy Kimmel Cracks Wise about Two Murdered Federal Agents

The KARDASHIANSIf you haven’t heard, comedian and late night show host Jimmy Kimmel hosted this year’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner last Saturday night.

Evidently, leaders in the entertainment industry and a lot of Hollywood's A-listers are distancing themselves from the president in light of his SOPA stance.

Overall, we admit most of Kimmel’s jokes, taking pokes at both Republicans and Democrats, for the most part were funny and good –natured with the exception of the following:

Turning to the president Kimmel quipped: "Democrats would like [President Obama] to stick to [his] guns. And if you don't have any guns, you can ask Eric Holder to get some for you."

This obvious reference to the Obama administration’s failed and deadly Operation: "Fast and Furious.”

If you haven't heard of the Obama administration’s “Fast and Furious” gun-trafficking scandal, that's because the so-called mainstream media is for the most part, running cover for the administration.

Kimmel’s “Joke” and the audience’s reaction go beyond the pale.

Someone should remind Jimmy Kimmel the Washington elite in the audience that hundreds of innocent lives were taken as the result of this administration's botched operation, including those of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jamie Zapata.

Kimmel’s remarks to the president come at about the 6:00 minute mark of this video.
